Meditation for Combat-Related Stress

Meditation for Combat Stress Symptoms
Transcendental meditation, one type of meditation, has been in the news recently for its usefulness in managing the symptoms of combat stress.  Since I've been getting some questions on it, I have included the related articles, video, and research here.  I do not have personal experience with this particular type of meditation, so I cannot give any lengthy comment.

Reduction of PTSD Symptoms in Veterans with Transcendental Meditation
The David Lynch Foundation held a press conference in December of 2010 to announce the launch of Operation Warrior Wellness, which offers Transcendental Meditation to veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this video, George Washington University trained researcher Dr Sarina Grosswald discusses how PTSD initially comes about in a person and the severity of what that can mean: "emotional numbing, the inability to enjoy life, difficulty sleeping -- insomnia, often self-medicating with alcohol or drugs." She then gives a comprehensive presentation of the scientific studies that have been done on the effects of Transcendental Meditation, and explains the impressive reduction in PTSD symptoms that have taken place in those using TM as a treatment.
